FAQ's
How does it work with payments?
Payment for the trial is due at the time of the trial. The deposit for the wedding day is 50% when a contract is signed; most brides write the contract at the end of the trial; but if you feel you need a couple of days to check out the pictures, show others etc, and think about it, no problem - you can send it in the mail. I take personal checks and cash; unfortunately I am not able to accept credit cards.
My bridesmaids want makeup done (or, maybe you want them done!), but they are uncomfortable with the price. Any options?
Besides paying for them, there are two options. You can decide to subsidize the bridesmaids, which has been done successfully by several brides. You decide what you feel comfortable asking them to contribute, and you cover the rest. We can keep it transparent on the wedding day, or you can take care of your portion ahead of time, and I will not let them know the arrangement - you decide what’s appropriate. The other option is for some bridesmaids to just do an “eyes-lips-cheeks” option, which takes about half the time and costs less. What if I can’t decide between a softer look and a stronger one, maybe with a smokey eye for my wedding? After all, it will be sunny and bright when we start, but dark later and I want to look appropriate for each!
A couple of options here. First of all, the most important makeup is what the bulk of the photographs will be of; which is normally early on and with good daylight. Pictures from the reception are rarely used for the mantel! However, a change is possible.
1) We can discuss options for changes at the trial, and may decide on a stronger lip and/or a quick eye change that you can do yourself before the reception.
2) You can hire me to stay for touchups, and I can transform your day look to an evening look. I would also be available for your mother and BMs as time allows.
3) If you hire me for the whole day, I stay as long as you want me for!
How long does it take on the wedding day?
A full makeup application takes about 45 minutes; for the bride I like to set aside an hour. If there are over 6 people total, I can bring an assistant to help me speed up the process, and the assistant may do one bridesmaid while I work on the bride at the end.
What about when I cry?
The mascara, liner, eyelash glue and the cream shadows are waterproof, so you will be fine. A touch-up kit is included for each bride. We will talk about this during the trial. Will we need to prepare in any way before you do our makeup on the wedding day?
Everyone should come with a clean face, and when selecting what to wear, keep in mind that I will need to see the skin color on the parts of the body that will show in the dress (arms/chest), and will need to fix any tan lines that will show in the dress. I do take a minute to “clean up” the brows with tweezers before we start makeup, but anyone needing major work is encouraged to get it done beforehand! Please, no waxing the last several days before the wedding, as makeup may not adhere to the skin in that area.Makeup Tips
- Not all makeup is photo friendly. Most retail brands are not meant to be photographed. Avoid products with ingredients like titanium dioxide, mica, zinc, paba, etc.
- If you cannot afford to have a professional makeup artist do your makeup on your wedding day, consider taking a private lesson from the makeup artist. During your lesson, you can go over the products you should use and learn how to apply the look you want on your wedding day. There are always other options. Be creative.
- Go with a classic look on your wedding day. You want to look back at your photographs with pride. Your wedding is not the time to try a new look. My goal as your makeup artist is to have you walk out the door looking better than you anticipated, but still looking like you! You want your friends and family to recognize you on your wedding day, and be wowed.
- Always try out new products ahead of time. Do NOT wait until the week before your wedding to try firsts. Plan ahead. Do NOT get your eyebrows waxed for the first time the week before your wedding. Sometimes the wax can lead to breakouts. Wax residue will stay on your skin for a few days, which can also change how makeup lays on your skin. Be thoughtful about your schedule.
- Use long lasting, water proof products.
