Makeup Preview

Your makeup preview is invaluable.  I prefer to meet with my clients a minimum of 30 days before the wedding date, but preferably about 3 months ahead of time.

What do we do during your preview?
When I meet with you for a preview, it is a time for us to talk about your wedding and work together to create the look you want on your wedding day.  Your opinion matters when designing this look, and I take great care to incorporate your vision.  We talk over lattes (my treat) as you flip through a look book and begin to pull your look together.  I spend on average 2 hours with each client creating a look that will emphasize your beauty.  I want people to look at you and see you, not the makeup you have on your face.

I ask that you come to our meeting with your makeup on.  I like to see how you wear your makeup every day and what you are comfortable with.  It's also important for you to show up with samples of the makeup looks you like.  You've been flipping through bridal and fashion magazines for months probably.  Tear out the pages when you see a lipstick color you like, an eye that wows you, etc.  When we meet, we'll look at the tears you've brought and keep those in mind as we pull your unique look together.

What could we possibly talk about for  2 hours?

During this 2 hour session we will talk about the details of your wedding.  By the end of our session, I will have designed a look that works with your bone structure, skin tone, hair and eye color, and more importantly, it will reflect your personality.  I combine everything you tell me about yourself and your wedding to design this look.  All those details about your wedding dress (the fabric, color, style, embellishments, etc.) are taken into consideration.  We will come up with a sample schedule for the day of your wedding.  I'll help you figure out the time you need to set aside for hair and makeup.  This schedule will help you stay on time and avoid any unnecessary stress on the day of your wedding.  It's also helpful when you are trying to stay within your budget to avoid a photographer's overtime fee.  I'll help you make sure the bridal party is ready for the photos on time!

Why do I need a professional makeup artist?

A professional makeup artist is educated and trained to design a look you are comfortable with and one that you'll love to have captured by the photographer.  I take into consideration the photographer you have chosen, the type of film they are using (black and white, color, sepia), their style (journalistic, traditional, classic, etc.), and the location and time of day (indoor/outdoor/both, morning/afternoon/evening).  All of these details impact what type of makeup you wear on your wedding day.  You want your makeup to look good up close and far away, inside and outside, in the afternoon and carry on through the evening reception.
I am trained in color theory, which means I can create a custom-blended foundation color to match your exact skin tone.  I know how to make your eyes pop and emphasize their color, sculpt cheek bones you didn't know existed,  and conceal any blemishes, age spots, discoloration, and dark circles.  It's amazing how the right color can hide things you don't want to show and emphasize the those features you're most proud of showing off.
Corrective makeup is utilized to emphasize those features you love.  Many women love their almond-shaped eyes, are proud of their high cheek bones, love showing off those collar bones, etc.  Makeup can make the eyes look bigger, the cheek bones more sculpted, create a stronger jaw line or soften it, etc.

I travel to you on the day of your wedding, saving you stress and driving time on this busy day.  I always bring an emergency bag, which is filled with things like safety pins, scissors, needle and thread, tylenol, and all those things you may need at the last second.

Important tip: Always ask questions.
